Accessibility Statement

Black History Salute is a game about presence. The website that carries it should be usable by everyone, whatever tools they browse with. This page explains what we have built in, where the limits are, and how to tell us when something gets in your way.

What we have built in

  • Meaningful structure: proper headings, landmarks and lists, so screen readers can move around the way sighted visitors scan.
  • Text alternatives on imagery, including every card in the deck.
  • Keyboard access throughout, with a clearly visible gold focus outline and a skip link to jump straight to the content.
  • Interactive moments that speak: the card demos announce their results to screen readers as they happen, and can be played with a keyboard.
  • Respect for your settings: if your device asks for reduced motion, every animation on this site stands down.
  • No dead ends without JavaScript: pages remain complete and readable, and interactive demonstrations appear as their finished, static equivalents.
  • High-contrast type on a dark ground, sized in relative units so it scales with your browser settings.

Where we stand

We aim for the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 level AA. The site has not yet had a formal independent audit, and we would rather say that plainly than claim a badge. We test with keyboards, reduced-motion settings and screen readers as we build.

Known limitations

  • The card artwork contains printed text. Every fact that appears on a card also appears as ordinary text on the figure’s own page.
  • Payments run through Stripe’s hosted checkout, whose accessibility is maintained by Stripe.
